Nau mai, tauti mai

Grow your understanding of te ao Māori, in a flexible online course created by our experienced team.

About He Kura

He Kura by NAIA offers flexible, self-directed courses designed to help you build cultural intelligence (CQ) and grow your knowledge of the Māori world. Our approach is to help both individuals and organisations fully understand Māori history and context, knowing this is essential to working with Māori effectively.

In our experience, our NAIA in-person CQ programme is the best way to deliver this knowledge. It generally takes place over several months and encourages regular engagement. He Kura by NAIA offers a flexible and affordable alternative to our NAIA in-person offering for those who cannot make this time commitment, but still want to take a meaningful first step on your journey.

Our People

Rocky

(Ngāi Tahu,
Ngāti Hinematua)

Rocky is passionate about our tribal traditions and history. He is the Chief Storyteller for NAIA. His most recent position saw him work with non-Māori commercial leaders to help them better understand our iwi – our protocols, our language, and our worldview.

Rocky leads the Cultural Intelligence development programmes for NAIA and is actively engaged in providing training and coaching for corporates and non-corporate organisations.

Mel

(Ngāti Awa, Ngāti Pikiao, Waikato,
Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Tūwharetoa)

Mel believes that the key to achieving positive outcomes for Māori lies in increasing knowledge and awareness of our people and stories, and is committed to working with New Zealand businesses to do just that. With a warm and approachable style, paired with a sharp eye for detail, Mel excels at sharing complex information in a clear and concise way. Her extensive experience in developing and implementing Māori health strategies has given her a deep, practical understanding of how to drive meaningful change within organisations.

Shaping a Nation:
Past to Present

This is a three-part series that covers Māori history from our arrival to the present day.

The story of how Māori arrived in Aotearoa from Hawaiki, using our knowledge of the natural world to navigate.

The events surrounding the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi between Māori and the British Crown.

The challenges Māori have faced as a result of colonisation and the ongoing work to reclaim our culture and identity.
